Reiki Healing

The word Reiki means universal life
energy. It is defined as being that power which acts and lives in all created matter. In
the original Japanese it is two words. The first syllable rei describes the universal,
boundless aspect of this energy while ki is the vital life force energy which flows
through all living beings.
Many races, cultures and religions are aware of the existence of an energy which
corresponds to the meaning of ki. Thus ki is named Chi in China, and Prana in India, and
bioplasmic energy by Russian researchers. In the USA it has been called the Human Energy
Field. In Britain it may sometimes be called the vital spark or essence. I prefer the more
commonly used Chinese version: Chi.
Throughout the history of mankind healing methods have always existed which were based on
the transfer of a universal, all-pervading life energy, the same energy which brings forth
all life in the universe and nourishes it. Thousands of years ago the Tibetans already
possessed a deep understanding of the nature of spirit, energy and matter, using this
knowledge to heal their bodies, harmonise their souls and lead their spirits to an
experience of unity. We come across this knowledge later again in India and find modified
forms of it in the Japanese, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek and Roman cultures, just to mention
a few.
This knowledge was guarded and preserved by the mystery schools of most ancient cultures
and was available in its entirety only to very few people, usually priests or spiritual
leaders who in turn passed it on to their disciples by word of mouth.
Modern scholars often come across handed-down forms of this inner knowledge but generally
misinterpret it because it is usually shrouded in cryptic language and symbols. The
knowledge of Reiki would have been lost forever had not Dr. Mikao Usui at the end of the
19th century rediscovered the key in 2,500-year-old Sanskrit writings which led to the
recovery of an ages-old tradition of healing.
How Can Reiki Help You?
Reiki can be given for any illness, injury or stress, and there are no bad side effects.
It is complementary to all other therapies. It can be given to anyone, any age, and can
also be given to animals.
Reiki gives a holistic framework to identify and correct energy imbalances and hence
restore function or remove pain.
What Actually Happens During A Treatment?
You will simply be asked to sit or lie down fully clothed whilst my hands lightly touch
you. You may not even notice that you are being touched, and indeed sometimes my hands will
not be touching you.
I work mostly on the energy centres of the body known as the chakras. These are points or
areas on the body which have to do with how we process chi, on the physical level, as well
as on higher levels.
Reiki is about healing the spirit, which in turn heals the body and mind.
Reiki is not faith healing and is not connected with any religion or religious
group. It is not necessary to have religious or spiritual beliefs in order to benefit from
Reiki.
My Particular Approach and
Applications
My treatments combine well with most
other therapies, particularly homeopathy, herbal remedies and flower essences. In addition
where possible I instruct my clients in self-help techniques. I like to combine my
knowledge of body-work and energy-work into a synthesis of patient-centred care. I am also
a spiritual healer, which is a form of healing perhaps best
known in the UK (it is not faith healing or charismatic healing).
Healing
of Animals
Reiki Healing works equally well on animals. However the law in the UK protects animals very
carefully, rightly so in my opinion. Most vets are happy for qualified
healers to work with animals, in the knowledge that the NFSH has a strict code of
practice.
Distant Healing
Reiki can be
sent to you wherever you are. This process is known as
Distant Healing.

In Forres, I work in HealthWorks, the centre for Holistic Health Care. It is a practice
of about 14 therapists, each offering a holistic approach to health. The clinic was
founded by a medical doctor, and is owned and run by a Scottish-based charity
(not-for-profit organisation).
